Isle of Summer Label is an Australian fashion label designed for and by an awesome team of women. We're passionate about promoting inclusivity and helping women feel comfortable in their own skin through gorgeous, ethically produced designs.
Hi, I'm Emily!
I started my journey into the fashion world at 8 months pregnant with my second baby. My original kimono range was launched in October 2017 under the brand name of Mummy Couture and quickly grew a loyal following.
But I started to become concerned about the impact of fast fashion on both people and the planet, so I made the bold decision to switch my manufacturing to ethically produced and thus rebranded the business to Isle of Summer Label in 2019.
I'm passionate about raising awareness for increased transparency in the fashion industry and on a little mission to create well paid flexible working opportunities for women.
Thank you for joining us on our journey!
Our mission is to create flexible working opportunities for women AND to provide transparency around how our exclusive collections are made. We found the only way to achieve this was by creating our own vertically integrated manufacturing model.
All of our designs are created here in Brisbane by our in-house team of talented women. Each garment is designed by Emily, bought to life by our pattern maker and machinist, sampled and fitted on real Australian women. And from 2020, we'll also be producing small collections right here in Australia.
People and plant are important to us, we're not a mass produced fast fashion label and never want to be.
We're committed to working with suppliers who pay a fair living wage and provide safe working conditions. In 2019 we partnered with an ethically run factory in Indonesia who was able to provide us the transparency we so desperately wanted at that time.
In 2020, we have started producing small collections right here in Australia as well.
We're also working towards improving the transparency around our fabric supply chain and have committed to only using certified sustainable fabrics from 2021.
Some amazing changes are coming and we're really excited for the future.
We seriously hate waste... and plastic!
We only use plant based biodegradable garment and parcel bags and recycle all residual plastics that can't be eliminated.
We ship orders using minimal packaging with all important information provided via email or on our website. We use only 100% recycled paper and give away our shipment boxes for free on Gumtree.
We also think up ways to use up small fabric offcuts to reduce as much wasted fabric as possible, so you'll sometimes find a complimentary hair scrunchy in your order.
We're always working towards reducing our impact on the planet and researching new fibres to work with. Every business has a responsibility to fight against climate change.
We choose to donate 1% of our annual sales to non-profit organisations that work to protect the environment.
Isle of Summer Label joined the movement in March 2020.
